The producers convinced the US
Narrative
Amid an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler finds herself in a high-level job she’s not meant to be, which has tectonic effects on her marriage and political future. Check out our list of renewals and cancellations to see if your favorite show made the cut. and British governments to allow them to use real-world locations as filming locations for the series, including the fledgling U.S. Embassy (in Nine Elms), which opened in 2018.
The characters are incredibly written and everyone is a mystery to some degree
Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, a rare honor for film or television productions, especially American ones. The only unavailable location was Winfield House, the current residence of the U.S. ambassador. Although the series is accurately described as occupying London’s largest residential estate (11 acres) next to Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city to film.
It felt like The Night Agent, but better
Its dialogue is fast-paced and compelling, and the plot is constantly moving in messy political directions. The show doesn’t have the strong tone of other similar shows. I’d like to compare it a bit to House of Cards, but it doesn’t quite fit. There’s a hint of succession, but that doesn’t quite fit here either.
She does her job well, so no one worries about her behavior
I see critics complaining about the lead actress, her sloppy looks and tough demeanor, but that’s her thing! “You want people in power who don’t *want* to be in power.” Kate is focused on the mission and the cause where lives are at stake. What she wears, how she looks, and even when she sleeps are all secondary to the main mission. I thought her style fit the narrative perfectly and it was a refreshing change.
I really hope we see a second season
The best part about the show is the relationships they all have with each other. It’s rare that I like every character on a show, but I did with this one.
